Biography


Spencer Cha is a pianist and composer from Los Altos, CA. He currently studies piano with Dr. Elizabeth Schumann, and formerly studied piano with Dr. Frederick Weldy as well as composition with John Syzygy. A two-time YoungArts winner in classical music, Spencer has won prizes in multiple national and international competitions, including third prize in the San Jose International Piano competition and first place in the Music Teachers National Association Composition Competition. Spencer had his orchestral debut with the Palo Alto Philharmonic in 2019 and performed with the Golden State Youth Orchestra, the Harker School Orchestra, and the Peninsula Symphony in 2022. He won the Chopin SF Competition and CAPMT State Honors Competition and has performed at Carnegie Hall. His compositions have been premiered by ensembles across the country, and he was inducted into both the Music Teachers Association of California Young Composers Guild and Young Artists Guild in 2021. He has attended the 2021 Texas State International Piano Festival, the 2022 Southeastern Piano Festival, and the 2022 Bowdoin International Music Festival. A graduate of the Harker School and undergraduate at Stanford University, Spencer also enjoys skiing, playing tennis and serving in student government.
